Want Gigs? The please read!
Right now, life is great for many bands, your enjoying gigging. However we have seen bands turning up to venues up and down the country with nothing but a small handful of people inside the venue. Infact some of these bands have turned up to gigs without bringing a single person with them! How you can expect to build a career based on an empty room.
It goes without saying that when these gigs happen we cant afford to pay the bands who have turned out. We absolutely hate this, but we are sure you can understand that without you making an effort we should not be expected to put ourselves out for you.
The problems you face as a band, are obviously when scouts make the effort to come out they do not appreciate standing in a dead room. They can not guage you against your fans, they cant feel the vibe, or experience the atmosphere so if your playing to an empty room, at the end of the day you are only wasting your time and ours.
What makes this worse is these bands in question are actually quite good in terms of their music and the talent they are producing, but they are only working on their music, and not on the rest of themselves.
We feel we can help to stop this from happening, by following a couple of steps to help your careers. The primary issue bands are having is the desperation to play gigs! We dont want to stop you playing gigs, but by playing too many gigs, too often in the same venues, you are exhausting your fan base. Your friends will come out to watch you two or three times, but they soon run out of money to do so.
The bands havent taken the time to plug the show efficiently amongst their fan bases. This was as a result of playing too many gigs and it bypassed their promotions.
What we are fearing, is too many bands turning up to gigs, and booking gigs where they dont care if they get paid or not. Whilst we understand the comment, "we dont care about getting paid, we just want to play as much and as often as possible".
This is fine, but is there any point to playing as often as possible to empty rooms? If you want to make it in this industry then you need to ensure you are working at it, you need to get paid, and to get paid you need to work at promoting your band and your upcomming shows.
Sadly this lack of interest by the bands results in a poor atmosphere at the events. It results in losses to us (Project1 Events) and the venues lose confidence in us. In all everyone loses.
There are a few things that we have now implemented to ensure these problems do not continue to arise. So please read on to ensure that you can accept our terms and be part of a series of great events.
Firstly, any band booking an event with us you will be required to sign one of our performance agreements, which now include a clause stating that you can not perform any live show within a certain radius within 2 weeks either side of the proposed event.
We will also put a requirement on the band to ensure sales of a set number of tickets. These ticket sales will depend on what slot you are expecting at the show. If you are new to us, you will be expected to sell a greater amount of tickets to guarentee your slot a the show, however as you bulid up a relationship with us we will remove this barrier. This is like a deposit for us, and you.
This helps to show that you are genuine, depending on your reputation, we may ask you to buy the tickets from us, this way you get a greater drive for selling your own tickets, otherwise you end up out of pocket.
For some venues and promotions companies across the country this is now the norm.
This will be constantly updated so keep an eye out on here to ensure you stay in touch with our requirements if you want to be apart of our show.
